Max's Random Thought of the Day

"I don't like school. I don't see the point. I wish we could just come with the knowledge."
I hear you, Max. I HEAR YOU!

He may not like going to school, but the kid loves to read. Since Saturday he has read 4 books, and just started the 5th tonight. Those are chapter books. He flies through them! What a little smartie.

Haunted House? OF COURSE.

My stairs have been trying to kill me. (The picture shows the grand entrance in my house. Yeah.)
Just about every day this month, I have fallen up the stairs at least once. Sometimes twice. Sometimes three times. I'm not being a suck and telling you I trip a little and then keep going. I mean I'm falling completely forward and landing on my hands, my elbows, my hip...not my face yet, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time. I'm amazed I haven't broken any bones, given how extremely fragile I am with all this apparent osteoporosis.

I'm wondering about ghosts. Do you think there could be a mean ghost in my house who thinks it's funny to push me up the stairs? I know lots of alive people who would think that was funny, but they're never behind me when I look. Last time I fell, I said, "STOP IT!" to the ghost. We'll see if that helps.

Locks of Love

I made a big decision today. I gave away my hair!

Here's the last picture of my hair attached to my head.
And here is the first picture of my hair once it was unattached. Scary stuff!
This is how it looks.

Now some little kid is going to be walking around in a wig made of my hair. Totally creepy...

Our New Car!!

Today was one of the most exciting days we've had in years! We bought a car. We own a car! We have a car of our own and will never have to take the bus again! We will never have to walk again! In fact, we're going to find some kind of wheeled device to get us from the house to the car from now on. Exercise is for suckers.

I love Corina

"I want to eat the apple, but the caramel is blocking it".
- My Corina, after I was such a fun mom and made caramel apples with them.

Max and I ate the caramel for her so she could eat a plain apple on a stick.

Corina loves to make crafts. She made a robot companion today who is her height. I'll have to get a picture of that. She also made a Max costume:
See? Max's hair.

My Exciting News

For 5 years now I have been taking the bus everywhere I go. Errands that would only take 45 minutes with a car - like taking Corina to the doctor, then back to school, and then getting myself back to the college - take 3½ hours on the bus. And I am not kidding. I did some math and I figured out that I have spent 3.9 years out of the last 5 either waiting for a bus or riding on one. That's a lot.

Well guess what! Very very soon I will have a car of my own. Tomorrow I'm taking one for a test drive. If I don't like that one, there will be another. I will have a car by the end of the month. I am so excited about it that it's nearly all I think about!

I asked one of the bus drivers if they have good-bye parties for the regular riders when they buy cars. Apparently they don't. Rude.

Patrick Swayze

I can't believe he has pancreatic cancer! That makes me sad. Pacreatic cancer has a terrible prognosis. Gah! I hate that. Poor Patrick Swayze.

I didn't want to win anyway.

I didn't win the feeeeeeeeecking trip. I already did a real swear, and now I'm calm enough to fake swear. I feel a little ripped off though. The way they did it was they did a draw for 7 people to come up to the front, and then they did a reverse draw with those 7 people. They would call each of their names again, and this time the last one standing would win the trip. So anyway, before they did that they did some draws for dumb prizes. My name was the 3rd drawn and I won a really ugly bag. So really, if they had just left the ugly bags at the radio station, I would have been one of the 7 people at the front. Not fair! NOT FAIR!

And perhaps worse than not winning...I unwittingly ate a frog's leg. I ate the leg of an actual frog. I can't believe there's an actual frog's leg in my belly right now. I'm close to purging. They had some appetizers set out, and there were only two things that were meat-like. Everyone assumed the frog's legs were chicken on a skewer. I thought it tasted kind of sick, but I didn't want to be rude so I mostly ate it all. And then I saw the bone inside was all crooked and bendy and FROGISH. What the crap?? Who gives people frog's legs and doesn't warn them? I feel so dirty. I think maybe I really will go puke it up. I can't handle having it in my stomach any longer.

Max knows the deal.

Max and I were discussing a book we just read called The City of Ember. The people of Ember don't know how to make more of anything they use, because everything they need was always in a storehouse supplied to them by The Builders. And now the people are running out of supplies. It's pretty scary stuff.

Max was a little worried, and he asked me, "You know how the city of Ember is running out of things...will that ever happen to us?"

Cute!

I wanted to reassure him about how smart people are, and that we know how to make more of all the things we have. I got this much out before he interrupted me - "Well no, because we don't have a storehouse full of things for us to use. We have..."

"China?"

It's almost time for me to win something

I qualified to win a pretty awesome prize from a radio station here. I collected many thousands of points and entered their 7 Wonders contest a bunch of times, and now I am in the running for a trip! The morning show guy called me the other week to tell me. If I win, I will get to choose between these destinations: Hawaii, Australia, Italy, Niagara Falls, Egypt, New York, and...something else. I forget the other one.

Wednesday night I'm going to the dinner they're having for the qualifiers, and then they'll do the final draw. I feel like I should win. I really want to, and I believe that's what it takes. And then I'll choose....Niagara Falls! Yeah. I kid. Probably Hawaii. Or Italy. Or maybe Australia. What should I pick???

My Belly

I woke up in a panic in the middle of the night because I realized I forgot to send out thank you cards for the baby shower I had two months ago, and I nearly jumped out of bed to get working on them. And then I remembered I had my baby nearly 7 years ago. And I didn't forget to send out thank you cards. Maybe that dream means I'm pregnant. That would be awesome! And magic!
My belly made a good car mat back in its baby-holding days.
